Problems with changes

If you're having trouble shifting gears on your bike, one of the most common reasons is because the derailleur guard or derailleur hanger is bent or misaligned and is preventing the chain from moving smoothly between gears. Don't worry, this is a really easy solution so you can get back to using your Pulse as soon as possible.

How to Straighten a Bent Derailleur Guard

If the derailleur guard is bent, it is probably rubbing on the chain. It only needs to be moved gently to ensure that the chain flows cleanly.

Clean your chain and derailleur

Sometimes a chain has a buildup of grease and dirt, especially after an off-road adventure.

The easiest way to clean your chain is to take a lint-free cloth, wrap it around the chain, and then run the drive through the cloth to wipe away all the dirt and grease. Keep repeating this process until the cloth remains almost clean.

Once the chain is reasonably clean, you can clean any visible dirt from the derailleur and gears. Once clean, reapply the bicycle chain lube to each link while slowly backing up. Repeat until lubricant has been applied to each chain link. Wipe off any excess and then take your bike for a spin and see if it shifts better.
