How to take care of your Pulse in the rain?
The rainy season should not be an excuse for you to stop using your electric bike. Every component of our Pulse electric bikes is designed to withstand rain. However, it is advisable to know how to maintain your Pulse ebike during this season, or whenever you face the water.
You will undoubtedly have to navigate wet terrain or puddles at some point. None of this should stop you from using your electric bike. Remember that there is nothing that a hot chocolate or a hot bath won't cure. Despite the rain, this season is ideal for filming thanks to the temperature and the cloudy and airy environment, after many months of excessive heat.
By following a little basic care, you will ensure that nothing happens to your ebike and you will be able to ride for years without any problems, in any type of climate.
1. Check your battery
When you arrive at your destination, turn off the battery, check that it is not wet, especially the plug section, and, if it is, dry it. Nothing will happen to your battery as long as the amount of water in the plug section is not excessive.
If it's been a while since you checked that section and, when you do, you notice that there is rust, don't worry either, it's normal because of the water and the minerals in it. Just grab some fine sandpaper and carefully file the terminals of your battery and the opposite input until they are silver.
2. Clean the assisted pedaling
The pedal assist system is located on the inside of the axle of your pedals. You will recognize it as a small wheel with magnets around it. With rain, dust or mud, it can get dirty, interfering with the signal and making your pedaling feel intermittent.
Just grab a slightly damp cloth and wipe around the entire assist disc carefully. Also, make sure the disc is as far inside the pedal axle as it will allow. If it is closer to the star than to the central axis, just gently push it inward.
3. Cover your Pulse
We know that sometimes, due to lack of space or capacity, it is impossible to put the Pulse to sleep next to you (although we would love that). The Pulse are protected against water, however prolonged exposure to rain can wreak havoc on your ebike. If you must leave your Pulse outdoors for long periods of time (such as overnight or longer), you can purchase a plastic cover to protect it.
Also, make sure not to leave it anywhere where it can become waterlogged as this could cause damage to your engine or other components.
4. Use an anti-rust spray
If you want to ride in the rain, it is advisable to take care of your electric bicycle by spraying it with an anti-rust oil on all metal parts and especially on components such as the chain, star, derailleur, etc.
We recommend using a spray from a recognized brand such as 3M.
5. Use a degreaser for your bike
After riding in the rain it is essential that you take care of your ebike chain. To do this, use a degreaser on a dry flannel and rub the chain until it is dry. Make sure to wipe the flannel all over. Afterwards, a couple of drops of lubricant will be ideal to protect it for your next ride.
In addition, it is an excellent idea to also spray other metal moving parts with the lubricant, such as the front and rear mechanisms, the derailleur or the brake calipers. However, try not to let the degreaser reach sections other than the chain itself.
